Biographical Description

Patt, an African American individual residing in Johnston County, North Carolina, was presumably enslaved by the Bryan family. In November 1780, Patt testified before the local freeholders court regarding Jenney, an enslaved woman charged with poisoning her enslaver Lewis Bryan. The content of Patt's testimony was not recorded, but the court found Jenney guilty and sentenced her to be executed by being burned at the stake.
