Biographical Description

Treacey, an African American individual residing in Johnston County, North Carolina, was presumably enslaved by the Bryan family. In November 1780, Treacey testified before the local freeholders court regarding Jenney, an enslaved woman charged with poisoning her enslaver Lewis Bryan. The content of Treacey's testimony was not recorded, but the court found Jenney guilty and sentenced her to be executed by being burned at the stake.
