Benjamin Harrison Hogans was born on June 15, 1865, in Orange County, North Carolina. Hogans was a kind of renaissance man. He began professionally as a teacher in Goldsboro but later segued into the mercantile business and trucking. In 1902, he became an employee of the United States Postal Service, which position he held many years. He died in Goldsboro on February 15, 1926.
