Worth Claudius Carpenter was born on June 4, 1891, in Worth (Gaston County), North Carolina. Carpenter was employed by his father Oscar D. Carpenter when he registered for the draft (World War I) in June 1917. He was subsequently inducted into the service in July 1918 and served with the 53rd and 51st Depot Brigades until he was honorably discharged in December 1918. Carpenter died in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, on July 20, 1951.
