Biographical Description

Robert Lee Flowers was born on November 6, 1870, at York Collegiate Institute in Alexander County, North Carolina. A lifelong educator, Flowers is best remembered for his work transitioning Trinity College (later Duke University) to its new location in Durham, North Carolina, and later serving as the university's president (1940-1948). He died in Durham on August 24, 1951.
