Mr. George S. Powell,
Asheville, N.C.

Dear Sir:

Yours of twenty-first enclosing copy of letter to Col. Johnson and also a copy of letter to Mr. H. W. Plummer, has been received.

Governor Craig has been in bed for three days. While not seriously sick he is far from well. I hope to be able to get him off to Seven Springs tomorrow. I am sure that the rest and the water down there will be of great benefit to him. He has been troubled with symptoms of rheumatism every since he has been in Raleigh. I hope that the Seven Springs visit will get him in good shape.

I have talked over the ‘phone with Judge Thos. A. Jones today and told him to use his best efforts to prevent any strike on the part of the street car men until the Governor can get up there. The Governor will be in Asheville on the morning of June third, and he says that he has something that he wants to say to the street car men before they finally determine what they will do. I hope you will lend all the aid that you can to prevent a strike until the Governor can reach Asheville.

Very truly yours,

Private Secretary
