On this 10th day of April 1844 personally appeared before me Dobson Deyton one of the acting Magistrates in & for said County, William Edwards a resident of the County and State aforesaid and made oath in due form of Law, to the following statements to wit: That he the affiant is the eldest son of John & Ruth Edwards the former late Revolutionary pensioner decd. of Washington County Tennessee, the later now a resident of said County of Yancey who is now applying for a Pension on the account of her said husbands John Edwards Revolutionary services. That this affiant the son of the parties aforesaid was the first born after marriage and was born in or about the year Seventeen hundred & seventy one, and was in the days of the Revolution a boy well grown. And did on one occasion go with his father John Edwards to join the army in Bedford County which was some thirty miles from home and at the house of Colonel Caleways, which affiant thinks was about the year Seventeen hundred & eighty 1780. Also at the time his said father went into the Service they had a family of some three or four Children of which affiant is the eldest. This affiant also states on his said oath, that he has always understood and fully believes that his father & mother the parties aforesaid were married in Bedford County Virginia in the Seventeen hundred and seventy 1770.

I J W Garland clerk of the court of pleas & quarter sessions for said county of Yancey do hereby certify that Dobson Deyton whose name appears to the foregoing Affidavits, is and was at the time of signing the same an acting Magistrate as aforesaid & that the foregoing signatures purporting to his are genuine.
