Gentlemen:

A complaint has been made to me from a most respectable source that Julian Edward Wood of your County ought to be placed in Class 1 for the reason that he has been cruel to his wife, and utterly neglectful of her in every way. Complaint is made that he has paid as much as thousand dollars to keep him out of the draft. His wife does not want him to stay at home to support her, so that claim on his part cannot be entertained. I would be glad for you to carefully investigate this case, and if you find that the husband and wife are not getting along together, that she does not want to live with him, then the fact that he is a married man cannot be considered at all in passing on his case.
