Dear Sir:

I beg leave to acknowledge receipt of your letter of June 27th, in further reference to the situation which has arisen in Ashe County, and in response thereto to inform you that information was received by wire July 2d, from the Commanding General, Camp Sevier, who was directed to cause a thorough investigation of the reported trouble in Ashe County. Steps have been taken by him which promise a peaceful solution of this matter without the use of troops. He has been directed to report further action taken by him.

It is anticipated that the condition in Ashe County will be settled without trouble.
