My Dear Sir:

In regard to the deserters of this County I wish to state, that a good many of them have come up since hostilities have ceased and have gone to camp and have been mustered out and now back home.

The people of this County are very much wrought up over the matter, as they were informed by the Republicans that they could stay in bushes until the war was over and come up and that would end it. We think it very unfair for these boys to beat our soldiers back home, whom many have given their lives and no doubt some of them died in some of these deserters places.

The people who bought W.S.S. are bringing them in to cash and say they will not stand for such. We people have boys in France who have fought in some of the hardest battles and some of them given their lives, while these boys have laid in bushes and now back home free, so I am informed.

The Democrats have told the people all the time that the deserters would be punished but it looks as though the Republicans were right.

If things go off this way there will be no use to ask the people here to buy any more bonds or W.S.S.

I feel sure, that you will see to it that these deserters do not go unpunished.
