My dear Governor:-
I wish to thank you most heartily for your fine attitude in regard to the Clansman order. You are undoubtedly right in every particular. It is a most vicious attempt to make money by exploiting race prejudices, which are entirely out of date. The State owes you a debt of gratitude.
In all these War times the State has been very fortunate in having such a fearless and able executive.
