B. do sincerely promise & Swear that I will be faithful and Bear true allegiance to the State of North Carolina, & to the powers & Authorities which are Or may be Established for the Government thereof; And that I will to the utmost of my power, maintain & Defend the same against all attempts whatsoever And I do swear that I will do no act Wittingly, whereby the Independence of the said state may be destroyed or Injured
