Morganton ^NC^ 21st October 1827

Sir

Enclosed is the Declaration and affidavit of John Jenkins formerly a Private ^1st Sergeant^ in Captain Boykins Company of the Third Regiment of South Carolina Continental Line in order to be placed on the pension List accompaning it is the affidavit of Captain John Hollis who commanded him or his ensign at the time of his Service. The Old man is so frail that he could scarcely remember any dates at all, he remember under whom & where he served but as to the years it seem'd to him like a dream. His Honor Judge Norwood who examined him in open Court appeared fully satisfied by the old mans examination that he served as stated by and confirmed on it still more when he heard read Hollis's affidavit.

Be pleased to let me know the fate of his application as soon as passed on

Yours respectfully

Wm Roane
