Be it know that before me Andrew Polk a Justice of the Peace in & for the aforesaid Personally Appeared James Duncan & after being duly sworn According to Law doth on his Oath make the following Statement in Support of the Claim of Huldah Hill widow of John Hill decsd, Petition for Pension for the Services of her husband in the Army of the revolutionary War he States that he is a Sisters son of Jo. Hill decsd. who was the husband of the Petitioner Huldah Hill widow he States that his father James Duncan at the time of the Marriage of John Hill resided in Robertson County in this State near the Creek below Bettys Bridge he States that he was between nine & Ten years of age at the time & he was with John Hill in Anson County in the time of the Marriage of Said Hill the Parrents of Huldah Jackson was against the Marriage with John Hill her father not at home there appeared to be an agreement between J. Hill & Huldah Jackson to meet him said Hill at a neighbors & to ^go^ with him to a Justice of ^the^ Peace & Marry my uncle John Hill carried me with him & Huldah Jackson met him & rode behind me to a Justice & John Hill was Married to Huldah Jackson & I was present the Circustance I well recollect but the Month & year I do not, after their Marriage was the fight at Bettys Bridge I was then at my fathers in Robertson County & heard the reports of the Guns at them ^time^ of the fight at Bettys Bridge Capt. Jonathan Jackson was brought to my fathers wounded & there Continued Some time his Uncle John Hill as he understood was taken Prisoner by the Torys & was marched for Wilmington he being badly wounded & had a brother in law a Tory in Company, by his influence obtained a furlow & on his way home Called at his fathers & I saw his wounds some time after my father Moved to Anson County & I have continued to reside ^here^ the Petitioner I well know to be the widow of John Hill decsd. & that She has not Married since the within circustances I well recollect the Months or years is not recollected.
