Raleigh, N.C. Oct. 29, 1919.

Mr. Wm. H. Williamson, President of the Pilot Cotton Mills Company made the following statement:

"It has been brought to my attention that some people are laboring under the impression that the management of the Pilot Cotton Mills Company are refusing to deal with committees from their employees because said employees belong to a Textile Union.

This is not correct. This company has never and will not make any discrimination in any way between an employee who belongs to a union or one who does not belong to a union, and it will at all times meet, discuss and deal with individual employees or committees representing its employees.

This has been the policy of the company in the past and will be its policy in the future. This policy was and is known to the employees of this company and recently it has been again stated to a committee representing employees.

This company has refused to contract with any individual ro committee representing an organization to which a part of the employees of this company belong and which because of its affiliations is under the influence or control of others than employees of this company.

There has heretofore been published in several of the newspapers a copy of a contract presented to us by members of the Textile Union which as stated we refused to sign for reasons mentioned above.

While there has never been any signed agreement between the employees of this mill and the management there has always been a mutual understanding that any individual employee or committees representing the employees themselves have always had and still have the privilege of presenting to the management any matters affecting them.

To make ourselves clearly understood there is no objection on the part of the management to signing such an agreement with its employees as has heretofore been mutually understood and had an agreement as outlined below been presented to us we would have had no objection to signing the same.

"Agreement between the employees of the Pilot Cotton Mills Company, Raleigh, N.C. and the management of the Pilot Cotton Mills Company.

Section 1. That the Pilot Cotton Mills Company management will deal with the employees of said mill through duly elected committees who are employees of said mill, who shall have the right to deal with the mill management on all matters affecting the mill employees, through such committees, reserving to the management and the individual employees, the right to settle if possible, individual differences between themselves before such employees shall call upon such a committee in dealing with the management in the attempt of settlement of such differences.

Section 2. The management is not to discriminate in any way against any man or woman for belonging to a union.

Section 3. This agreement to be in force for three months (or longer) from date of signing and until thirty (30) days notice is given in writing of withdrawal by either party to this agreement to the other.
