James Campbell Late of Wilminton in the County of New Hanover in the province afd Inn-keeper was attached to answer to Samuel Bridgen of a plea of trespass on the Case, whereupon the said Samuel by Joseph Anderson his Attorney complains, that whereas the said ^[when] [illegible]^ [illegible] on the first day of May in the year of Our Lord One thousand seven hundred and fourty at New Hanover County afd, was possessed of two Negroe male slaves, called, John a barber, and Will of the price of three hundred pounds Current money of the said province, as of his own proper goods & Chattels; and being so thereof possessed, the said Samuel afterwards, to wit, the same day & year & place afd, casually Lost the said two Negroe male slaves out of his hands and possession, which said goods and Chattells, afterwards, to wit, the day and year afd, at New Hanover County afd, by finding came into the hands and possession of the afd James; yet the said James, knowing the said goods & Chattells to be the proper goods & Chattells of the said Samuel, and to him of right to belong & appertain, but contriving and fraudulently intending the said Samuel of the said goods and Chattles to deceive and defraud, the said goods and Chattels, though oftentimes requested; hath not delivered to the said Samuel, but the same goods & Chattels afterwards, to wit, the second day of May in the year afd, at New Hanover County afd, converted and disposed to his own proper use, to the damage of the said Samuel five hundred pounds, and therefore he brings this suit, &c.
