Doctor Thomas Hall of full Age, maketh Oath on the holy evangelist of Almighty God, that on or about the 30th of July 1769, this deponent was informed by several of his own Negroe slaves, that a certain Negroe Will, the property of Mrs: Elizabeth Blaning, had declared that he would poison Mrs: Lucy Hall, the Wife of this Deponent: whereopon this Deponent, some few days afterwards, applyed to Ralph Miller a Magistrate of Bladen County, who thereopon issued his Warrant for apprehending the said Negroe Will, and directed the same to John Maultsby a Constable in the County aforesaid, who in pursuance thereof, on the 7th: day of August in the year aforesaid, seized and apprehended the said Negroe Will; that being so seized, the said Negroe Will, within two hours thereafter, died in custody of the Constable aforesaid, previously confessing to this Deponent and the said Constable, that he did intend to have given a Dose of something to the said Mrs: Hall to make her easy. And this Deponent further sayeth, tha[t] [verily] [other] [damage] the said Negroe Will (apprehending, that the crime with which he stood charged by the testimony of the several Negroe Slaves ^above mentioned^ together with his own confession would forfeit his life) did himself take the same Dose of Poison which he had intended to administer to Mrs: Hall, & that he died thereof. This Deponent further sayeth, that he thinks in his conscience, that the said Negroe Will was worth, at the time of his Death, £150 Proclamation Money. And further this Deponent sayeth not.

Sworn to, before me this 21st: day of August 1769—
