<Arthur Dobbs Esqr. Governor of North Carolina £1000 per Annum out of 4 1/2 per Cent in lieu of £1000 per Annum out of Quit Rents of that province>

Our Will and Pleasure is That you forthwith prepare a Bill for Our Royal Signature to pass Our Privy Seal in the words or to do as the following.

The Lettres of Privy Seal bear date the Thirtieth day of May in the 27th year of his Majestys reign 1754.

 

 

 

 

 

George the Second by the grace of God of Grt. Britain France and Ireland King Defender of the Faith and so forth To the Commissioners of Our Treasury now being and to Our High Treasurer Chancellor and Under Treasurer of Our exchequer or Commissioners of Our Treasury for the time being Greeting Whereas by Lettres Point under Our Great Seal of Great Britain bearing date the 23d day of Febrry. in the 26th year of Our reign (1753) We have constituted and appointed Our Trusty and Welbeloved Arthur Dobbs Esqr. to be Our Captain General and Governor in Chief in and over Our Province of North Carolina in America. And whereas by a Warrant under Our Royal Sign Manual dated the 29t. day of Septr. 1733. We were pleased to establish and appoint ( amongst other things; a Salary of £1000 per Annum for the Governor of North Carolina for the time being payable out of Our Quit Rents of the said Province. And whereas We are given to understand that the said Quit Rents have not been sufficient to pay the Salaries charged thereupon and are now subject to a very large Incumbrance due to the Representatives of the late Governor there. Therefore and to the end that the said Arthur Dobbs may be enabled to execute his said commission and the Instructions given him thereby for Our Honour and suitable to the Dignity of his said Office We are graciously pleased to Grant and Allow unto him a yearly Salary of £1000, out of the monies which shall from time to time arise into the Rect. of Our Exchequer of the Duty of Four and one half per Centrum from Barbadoes and the Leeward Islands in lieu of the said Salary of £1000 a year made payable as aforesaid out of the Quit Rents of North Carolina Our Will and Pleasure therefore is that We do hereby Direct Authorize and Command that out of any monies arisen or that shall arise and be paid into the said Rect. of Our Exchequer for or upon account of the said Duty of Four and one half per Cent you pay or cause to be paid unto the said Arthur Dobbs, or to his Offic the said Salary or Allowance of £1000 by the year. The same to commence from the said 23d day of Febrry. 1753 and from thenceforth to be paid Quarterly for and during such time as he shall continue in the said Office or until We shall by Wt. under Our Royal Sign Manuel signify Our Pleasure to the contrary. And We do hereby Direct and Command that in case of the Death of the said Arthur Dobbs or of his removal from the said Office after any Quarterly day of payment and before another Quarters payment shall become due the said Salary or Allowance shall be paid by the day from the day he shall have been last paid thereon, to the day of such his death or removal inclusive. And Our further Will and Pleasure that no payment or allowance shall be made to the said Arthur Dobbs on the Salary of £1000 by the year established as aforesaid for the Governor of North Carolina out of the said Quit Rents of the said Province and that to prevent any such payment these Our Lettres of P.S. shall be Entered in the Office of the Auditor Genl. of the Plantations before any sum of money whatsoever shall, by virtue thereof be paid at Our said Rect. of Exchequer. And these Our Letters and so forth. Given and so forth.

And for so doing this shall be your Warrant Given at Our Court at Kensington the 24th day of May 1754 and in the 27th yr. of Our reign By his Majestys Command.
