His Hon. Governor Bickett,
Raleigh, N.C.

My Dear Governor;

I have read with much pleasure this extract from your speach. I think it so grand in you to have such care for us poor suffering women. I write to thank you for the same, and to notify you, as you say, “on the quiet.” I am one of that no. of women spoken of in this clipping. You will understand the rest. My husband’s name is Albert Stanley, Beaufort, N.C. I think he is placed in class five. I will thank you for what ever you do in my behalf. And will continue to pray God’s blessing upon you and yours. If you could only know!

Humbly yours

(Mrs.) H. A. Stanley.
