Letter from Mr. Pownall to Arthur Dobbs Esqr. Govr. of North Carolina, relative to the erecting a Fort at Cape Lookout.

Sir,

The Lords of the Committee of Council for Plantation-Affairs having referred to the Lords Commissioners for Trade and Plantations an Extract of a Letter from you to their Lordships dated the 19th. of May last, representing the Expediency of erecting a strong Fort at Cape Look-out upon the Coast of North Carolina, I am directed by their Lordships to desire you will, as soon as possible, employ some able and skilful Engineer to survey the said Harbour & Ground adjacent, and to prepare an exact Plan and Estimate of the Expence of erecting such a Fort as shall be necessary for its Security and Defence, and that you will transmit the same to their Lordships by the first opportunity, to the end that their Lordships may be enabled fully to report their Opinion upon this Matter to the Lords of the Committee of Council.
