New York, 1st. March 1760.

Sir,

Having been Informed by Govr. Lyttelton, that notwithstanding the Treaty of Peace he had lately Concluded with the Cherokee Indians, those Savages had again Committed fresh Hostilities, for the punishment of which he has requested a Body of His Majesty's Troops, which I have accordingly granted, and hope to Send him soon, but as I should be glad that he was Apprized of the Measures I have taken in Consequence of his Request, as Early as possible, and that there is no Ship at present in this Port immediately Bound to his, I Seize the Opportunity of One for Newbern that is to Sail tomorrow, to forward my Dispatches to him by the Bearer, who came to me by Land, and has Chosen this method of Returning; I must therefore beg the favor of You, that immediately after his Landing, You will be so kind as to Order him to be provided with Horses, that he may proceed on his Journey without delay; By this same Occasion, I Enclose You a Duplicate of my Letter of the 21st. Ultimo.
