Brunswick

4. Jany. 1763.

Sir,

In Consequence of a Message from the lower House of Assembly of this province, of which I send you a Copy, I must request the favour of you to certify what Troops were raised in this province in 1760 and 1761, and the Time of their Service, in order to enable our Provincial Agent in England to make a proper Application for a Reimbursment to the province of the Expence it has thereby incurred.

Permit me at the same time to inform your Excellency that in Obedience to His Majesty's Commands, signified by the Secretary of State, this Province in June 1760 raised 4 Companies of 75 Men each, which were continued for 6 Months, and imployed in defending our Western Frontier and repelling the Cherokees. In 1761 a Regiment of 500 Men was raised and continued from the 1st. of May to the 10th. of December, and by your Orders joined the Forces of Virginia. I have no Certainty that the immediate Officers of these Troops made any return to you, and therefore now transmit you the above short Account, having before communicated to you what Troops were in the pay of this Province at the times they were respectively raised. I have no doubt of obtaining from your Excellency a Report in behalf of this Province as far as you shall judge it to have exerted itself for His Majesty's Service.

I send you this by Mr. Rogers, who has a Recommendation to your Excelly from me in Council on Account of His Behaviour in the Expedition against Fort Du Quesne, which has remained thus long in a Manner unnoticed. In Justice to his Merit I must add that I am satisfied his future Conduct will justify the Recommendation.

I am with great Regard

Sir

your Excellency's

most obedient

humble Servant

Arthur Dobbs
