Sir,

I take the Oppertunity of a Ship Sailing from hence to Liverpool to congratulate you upon this distinguishing mark of His Majestys favour in appointing you Secretary at War, which I hope you will long enjoy as I hope the late frequent changes will cease upon the confirmation of the Glorious Peace, now nearly concluded which establishes the British Empire over North America, and with it the Empire of the Ocean and a Most extensive commerce.

I some time ago sent over to M Townsend then Secretary at War a complaint against Captn. Dalrymple appointed Governor of Fort Johnston upon this River, which I hope will now come to your hands to which I refer you and don't doubt but you will think it for His Majestys Service that he should be removed from this Command as a person not fit to be trusted with such a command, as you will find by Sr Jeffry ^Amhersts^ Letter of which I have sent you a Copy, that he can't be tried here, which I hope you will lay before His Majesty.

Though it is not reasonable to expect any promotion in the Army upon the dismissing so many Regiments, yet I must beg leave to recommend my Son Edward Brice Dobbs to you for your countenance and favour, he is now a Captain in the Fuzileers under the Command of Lord Robert Birtie at Gibraltar, he had Suffered much in his Health in two Campaigns under General Braddock and at New York where he had the Command of our Provincials, while he had leave of Absences from his Regiment to Accompany me to this Province.

I wish you may long enjoy his Majestys favour, and beg leave to assure you that I am with great regard
