Sir,

Having Obtained His Majesty's Gracious Permission to Return to England, with Orders to Leave the Command of the Troops in this Country, with Major General Gage, I cannot Take my Leave of You, without Thanking you for the Readiness You have Shewn, upon Every Occasion, in Forwarding & Promoting the King's Service, during my Command; And I am Sure I Need not Recommend a Continuance thereof to my Successor, who will be glad to Correspond & Co-operate with You in Every thing that can Tend to the good of the Service, or Country, and that may Lay in his power to Promote.

N.B. The Foregoing to the Governors of South Carolina, Virginia, New Jersey, New York, Connecticutt, Rhode Island, Massachusetts Bay & Newhampshire.

And to the Governors of North Carolina; Maryland; Pensylvania; & Nova Scotia, the following Letter.

Sir,

Having Obtained His Majesty's Gracious Permission to Return to England, with Orders to Leave the Command of the Troops in this Country with Major General Gage, I am to Request You will be Pleased to Correspond & Co-operate with him, as Occasion may Require, regarding the King's Service, in the same manner as has been Recommended to you by His Majesty's Ministers, to Correspond with former Commanders in Chief; And I am Certain Major General Gage will be glad to Joyn with you, in Doing Every thing that can Tend to the Good of the Service, or Country, and that may Lay in his power to Promote.
