To his Excellency Arthur Dobbs Esqr. Captain General Governor and Commander in Chief in and over the Province of North-Carolina, and to the Honorable the Members of his Majesty's Council:

The Petition of John Rodgers late Lieutenant under the Command of Lieutenant Colonel James Moore

Humbly sheweth.

That your Petitioner has been in his Majesty's Service in the Pay of this Province since the Year 1754 as appears by the annexed Certificates.

That your Petitioner was in the Service under General Forbes at the Taking of Fort DuQuesne—

That the said General offered five hundred Pounds for the taking of a Prisoner which depended the Reduction of that important Fortress.

That your Petitioner at the Risque of his Life took a French Indian Prisoner near the said Fort, and marched him 50 miles through an uninhabited Country at that Time covered with Frost and Snow, and afterwards delivered the Prisoner to the said General, who then promised your Petitioner Promotion, and full Satisfaction, and exempted him from further Service that Campaign.

That in Consequence of Intelligence optioned from the said Indian Prisoner Fort Du Quesne was taken.

That soon after General Forbes dyed and your Petitioner having never been promoted in the regular Service, or obtained other Satisfaction agreable to General Forbes his Promise, Your Petitioner humbly prays your Excellency, and Honours to recommend him to the King's most Excellent Majesty, as a proper Object of his Royal Favor, and as in Duly bound

Your Petitioner shall every pray.
