UNITED STATES FIRST FLEET

The Secretary of the Navy takes pleasure in presenting the Navy Achievement Medal to

Lieutenant Richard John BARRETT
United States Naval Reserve

for service as set forth in the following

CITATION:

"For professional achievement in the superior performance of his duties while serving in Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron FOUR embarked in USS HORNET (CVS-12), during the period 27 June 1969 to 25 July 1969. On 24 July 1969 Lieutenant BARRETT was the aircraft commander of the primary swimmer aircraft supporting APOLLO eleven recovery operations. Both in training sessions in preparation for that important event and during the actual recovery, he executed perfect aircraft control, deployed his embarked swim team and carried out his assigned mission flawlessly. Lieutenant BARRETT's resourcefulness, professional skill and devotion to duty reflected great credit upon himself and were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service."
