Biographical Description

Lydia Bembridge was a resident of Craven County, North Carolina. In August 1754 Lydia and her husband Joseph were murdered by Jack, an African American man enslaved by Newmann Dunn, leaving behind the couple's infant child Abigail. The motive for the murder was not recorded, but Dunn later assumed the role of administrator for the Bembridge estate, suggesting Dunn, and therefore Jack, knew the Bembridges.
