William Augustus Devin was born on July 12, 1871, in Granville County, North Carolina. Devin was a superior court judge and later associate justice (1935-1951) and chief justice (1951-1954) of the North Carolina Supreme Court. He died in Oxford, North Carolina on February 18, 1959.
