John Porter Jr. was born in Virginia in about 1690. The son of a prominent politician, Porter represented Beaufort Precinct in the North Carolina Colonial Assembly from 1715 to 1716. Porter then became a resident of Chowan Precinct for a short time before returning to Beaufort by 1723. Porter died in New Hanover Precinct, North Carolina in about 1727.
