Biographical Description

Robert Simms was born in Nansemond County, Virginia in 1729. He became a prominent figure in Dobbs County, North Carolina. In 1778, he cosigned a petition from Thomas Saint to the North Carolina General Assembly regarding a land dispute. When Wayne County was formed in 1779, Simms became the first sheriff of the county. He died in Wayne in about April 1791.
