Biographical Description

Mark Newby was born in Perquimans County, North Carolina on March 25, 1726. A Quaker, he was appointed to appear before the North Carolina General Assembly to defend a petition from the Eastern Quarter of Quakers advocating for the abolition of slavery in 1782. He died in Perquimans on December 20, 1784.
