Thomas Edgerton was born in Haddonfield, New Jersey, in 1735. A Quaker, he relocated to Wayne County, North Carolina in 1777. There he signed a 1780 petition from the Wayne County Quakers asking the state assembly to reconsider the taxes levied on Quakers. Edgerton died in Wayne on April 24, 1794.
