Biographical Description

John Lewis Beard was born in Germany and immigrated to Pennsylvania before settling in Salisbury, North Carolina in 1755. A local town commissioner, Beard worked as a butcher, tanner, and innkeeper and later was a member of the town's Committee of Safety during the American Revolution. He died in Rowan County in about December 1788.
