Biographical Description

John Selwyn (1688-1751) was a British army officer and politician who served as treasurer of Queen Caroline's pensions. He was the father of George Augustus Selwyn (1719-1791), who had a land grant of 200,000 acres in which modern-day Charlotte is located.
