James Calloway Wallace was born in Wilkes County, North Carolina, on July 19, 1875. Wallace was the owner of Wallace & Co., a department store in North Wilkesboro. He also served as the town’s register of deeds, clerk, and treasurer, and as a justice of the peace for Wilkes County. He died at his home in North Wilkesboro on May 2, 1941.
