WE, the undersigned citizens of Wilkes County, North Carolina, do most respectfully petition your excellency to give favorable consideration to the difficulties the people of Northwestern North Carolina have labored under in the past on account of no transportation fecilities, and that now the Watauga & Yadkin River Railroad is pushing the construction of a railroad right into the heart of this rich and undeveloped section, therefore we ask that you give this company its full quota of convicts at the earliest possible moment, and if it is impossible for you to give them their full quota now, that you endeavor to increase their present force to at least 50 men.
In view of the fact that the citizens personally have been liberal in financing this developement in order that this naturally rich section may have a showing, we believe you will give us this as well as any other support within your power.
