Biographical Description

Daniel Gould Fowle was born in Washington (Beaufort County), North Carolina, on March 3, 1831. Fowle was an attorney and Confederate veteran who served as legislator (elected 1862 and 1864), superior court judge (appointed 1865), and governor of North Carolina (1889-1891). He died in Raleigh (Wake County) on April 8, 1891.
