Adam Empie Wright Sr. was born in Wilmington, New Hanover County on May 18, 1833. He attained a medical license and was active in the social scene around Wilmington. At the outbreak of the Civil War, he joined the 22nd Regiment North Carolina Homeguards as a Surgeon. Surviving the war, he died in Wilmington on July 14, 1879.
