Winstead Davie was born in Person County, North Carolina on January 3, 1797. A resident of Union County, Illinois, he held many public offices including clerk of the county court and justice of the peace. He also operated an extensive mercantile business and founded the town of Anna, Illinois, which was named after his wife. He died in Union County on July 11, 1885.
