Ephraim Clayton was born in Transylvania County, North Carolina on March 9, 1804. Clayton was a carpenter and builder who worked as the Supervisor of Construction and as an overseer of imprisoned laborers on the Western North Carolina Railroad. He died in Buncombe County, North Carolina on August 9, 1892.
