George Setzer was born in Lincoln County, North Carolina, on September 23, 1816. Setzer sent a letter to Gov. Zebulon B. Vance about a transfer of imprisoned laborers from the Chester and Lenoir Narrow Gauge Railroad to the Western North Carolina Railroad in 1878. He died in Newton (Catawba County), North Carolina, on September 23, 1885.
