John Alston was born in England in about 1673. By 1711 he had settled himself near Bennett's Creek, Chowan Precinct, North Carolina. Alston held many offices throughout his life, including Justice of the Peace for Chowan County, assistant justice to the county court, collector of the revenue, and Chowan County sheriff. He died in Chowan County in 1758.
