Biographical Description

Jack, an African American man residing in Chowan Precinct, North Carolina, was enslaved by John Porter Jr. In 1720 he traveled with a group of other enslaved people via canoe to Nicholas Crisp's plantation. Later Jack would have moved to New Hanover County, North Carolina with the Porter family sometime after 1723. When John Porter wrote his will in 1727, he bequeathed the ownership of Jack to his son John Porter III. Any further records regarding this individual have not been located.
