Biographical Description

Hugh Blaning arrived in Bladen County, North Carolina by 1735. Referred to as a captain, Blaning represented Bladen in the North Carolina colonial assembly in 1735 and later served as a justice of the peace. In that later capacity he sat on the freeholders court, which heard cases involving enslaved individuals. He died in Bladen County by March 1752.
