Biographical Description

Joseph Harris was a resident of Craven County, North Carolina. An owner of enslaved people, Harris came before the Craven County court in 1739 because Ben, an African American man Harris had enslaved, had run away. Harris asked local officials to find Ben and bring him back to Harris. Any sources indicating whether Ben was captured have not been located.
