Biographical Description

Charles Porter was born in Isle of Wight, Virginia in about 1734. Later a resident of Edgecombe County, North Carolina, Porter owned enslaved people. In 1774 he received compensation when one of his enslaved people, a man named Caesar, was found guilty of an unspecified crime and subsequently executed. Porter died in Edgecombe in September 1794.
