Biographical Description

Jack, an African American man residing in Halifax County, North Carolina, was enslaved by Ezekiel Moore. In February 1768 Jack came before the local freeholders court when he was charged with grand larceny for stealing a gun from Benjamin Garris. The court found Jack guilty of the crime and ordered his execution by hanging on February 20, 1768. Any further information regarding this individual has not been located.
