Biographical Description

Lewis Bryan was born in Johnston County, North Carolina on November 4, 1745. Bryan represented Johnston in the North Carolina General Assembly in 1779. An owner of enslaved people, Bryan and other members of his family were allegedly murdered by their own enslaved people, who poisoned them and later sat on trial for the crime. Bryan died in Johnston on January 4, 1780.
