Biographical Description

Malachi Murden was born in Virginia sometime before 1735. Murden moved to Halifax County, North Carolina by 1764, where he established himself as a merchant. Regarded as a man of wealth within the community by 1776, he questioned Rose, an enslaved woman who was suspected of setting fire to a barn. Murden died sometime after 1776.
