Jane Warren was born in Bertie County, North Carolina in about 1738. In 1761 she married William Ferguson and the couple resided in Halifax County. After William Ferguson died in about 1764, Jane Ferguson assumed ownership of the couple's enslaved people, including a boy named Luke. Sometime in 1765 Luke testified before the local court about another enslaved woman named Rose, who was found guilty of burning down a barn. Ferguson married John Borden in 1766 and later died in Iredell County, North Carolina in about 1803.
